YOUMAN (ARTIST)

YOUMAN has been the artist pseudonym of German musician, composer and producer Andreas Friedrichs since 2008. He works as both a studio and live musician and has a musical background spanning multiple instruments alongside formal piano and organ training. This foundation shapes his work across electronic, pop and film music. YOUMAN’s music combines emotional songwriting with contemporary electronic production, focusing on atmosphere, melody and clear song structures. Acoustic elements and unconventional instruments are used selectively as subtle accents, while the core of his sound remains modern, song-driven and electronic. Influence & Collaborations YOUMAN’s early musical influences include The Alan Parsons Project, Genesis, Ultravox, Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre, which shaped his sense for melody and electronic sound design. In more recent years, artists such as David Guetta, Felix Jaehn, Glockenbach and Billie Eilish have influenced his current, emotionally focused approach to pop and electronic music. More recently, he has also drawn inspiration from modern house, deep house and tropical house, with further releases in this direction planned. Over the years, YOUMAN has collaborated with and worked alongside experienced artists and producers such as Klaus Doldinger, Gunther Mende and Peter Ries on music and film-related projects. These collaborations and creative exchanges have had a lasting impact on his artistic development. Alongside his solo work, he is one half of the duo GroovEmotions, focusing on ambient chillout music with deep, introspective lyrics. Awards In autumn 2021, YOUMAN produced the original soundtrack for the short film Infinity + 1 by director Florian Janik Demmer. In 2022, the score received international recognition, earning Gold and Platinum awards at film festivals. Among the highlights was a Platinum Award for Best Original Score at the Los Angeles International Film Festival / Short Awards, as well as a Gold Award at the Emerald Peacock Festival in Berlin. The project also gained attention due to its charitable background, as the production fee was donated to support victims of the 2021 flood disaster in Germany. This unexpected international response marked an important milestone and reinforced YOUMAN’s focus on original music and scoring projects. Furhter milesones YOUMAN’s tracks “Alone,” “Love 2 Love” and “Secret Tonight” entered the German DJ Dance Charts, with YOUMAN spending over ten weeks in the charts during 2023, at times with multiple tracks charting simultaneously. Both “Alone” and “Love 2 Love” also appeared in the Euro Indie Music Charts, while his releases have achieved extensive international radio airplay. Outlook Since 2023, YOUMAN has focused primarily on his own releases under the YOUMAN name, working in the pop, dance and EDM genres, with a growing emphasis on house, deep house and tropical house sounds. At the same time, GroovEmotions is returning with new releases, expanding its catalog of atmospheric, chillout-oriented music. The release of selected film music from past projects is also planned.
